Written in the form of a detailed timeline, Shattered World describes an alternate history timeline in which the Soviet Union invades Poland in 1937, sparking a radically different second world war.
In the early 1930's relations between Hitler's Third Reich and Stalin's Soviet Union cool dramatically, bringing a level of tension to Europe not seen since the days before the Great War. By early 1936 Stalin is convinced that Hitler intends to invade Poland and decides to launch a preemptive invasion of his own. The Red Army, already large and formidable, begins to make its preparations.
Tensions between the East and West now explode into open conflict as Stalin orders the Red Army to roll west. It is the dawn of a terrible new chapter in human history, and the birth of a global struggle that will boil and rage for years, maybe decades, to come.

If you're expecting to meet characters and have a story line to follow, this is not the book for you. The author simply gives a date and a short summary of what happened on that date in the alternate time-line of this book's universe, with a few asides saying "this circumstance is different from OTL". Though by no means an expert on WWII, I didn't find the timeline totally believable, particularly in the way certain new weapons were developed, mass-produced and made it to front-line service in a remarkably short time. Having the Kindle version, there were no maps available so, rattling off the names of lesser-known cities where battles took place or lines were formed doesn't have much of an impact unless you are quite familiar with European geography. I don't know if the print version has any maps or illustrations, but they would certainly be helpful. All in all, it's not a bad book as long as you realize it's just a timeline, not a novel, but I don't think I'll read any more in this series.Product details

Shattered World 1 The Eurasian War eBook Bobby Hardenbrook Reviews
I ought to have read the reviews first. This is not a novel, it is something like a timeline. It reads like clippings of headlines from an alternative timeline. No characters, no descriptions, no explanations, instead the author just presents us with one event after another.
Further, his timeline is not even very original. Turtledove's The War That Came Early series is more of less the same idea, although it goes in other directions.
Add in misspellings and typographical ineptitude [*What does text set off in brackets and asterisks mean?*] and you get to a point where the reading is not worth the effort.
This is not a story, it is an idea for a story. On the plus side, let me see how the 'return' feature works on a .
I love to read history and I really enjoy the "what if" of alternate history timelines. I have read all five of the current books in this series and, while the writing style may seem simple, it actually helps in developing and presenting such an extremely vast and complex scenario. I think the author has some very interesting insights and speculations. Some minor editing issues, but otherwise the story grabbed me. I can not wait for the final two e-books to be finished. One warning, this alternate timeline presents a vision of a world at war that is much worse that what actually happened. However, this is an author to keep an eye on. He is very good.
If you like history and a fan of the alternate history format the Shattered World series is an interesting read. It does not read like fiction. There are no characters, no romance, no pro- or an- tagonists. The author takes his idea and runs with it in a fascinating of "if this happened - then that might happen - which could cause that to happen. I'll probable buy the other titles in the series to see how he concludes the 'what if'. But then, I'm a history nut... if you are you'll probably like this book... if not, you probably won't.
Browsing on kindle store I just found this old alternate history timeline about this alternate and nastier World War 2. I think it used to be openly published, but the author decided by self publishing on kindle. I read when was available over the internet, years ago, so if this is not a reviewed version, I can say that the original one was very good.
The history tells the different path Europe took during the 1930s the lead Stalin to be agressor power and start the invasion of Poland in 1937. Smartly enough the author does not try to start the timeline from the point of divergence (which some hints lead me to think happened in 1934), instead jumps right into the soviet invasion, with the red army not shattered by the purge. With the aggression started by the red menace, Germany basically gains free reign from the western powers. Soon enough the axis powers will collide with the USSR.
This book will basically follow our WW2 estearn front in a slow pace, presented in this (supposedely) boring timeline format where you will be able to follow the strategies, tatics and tech development around the conflict. And for most of the book you will not be able to tell the winner.
Going by the highly unusual spread of rating, with almost equal numbers of each star, this book provokes different opinions in every reader.
to describe its style ...... it is more of a story outline than an novel.
The best way to describe it, is that it is the book equivalent of watching a 6 part TV documentary covering the whole WWII where say all of Stalingrad is covered in one 5 minute section. You get all of the excitment, without any of the padding.
Saying all that, i liked it. It worked for me.
If you have ever (re)read a series of books (eg a Harry Turtledove) and been tempted to skip forward over the padding/loveintrest/charcter background bit to get to the sections with the action and battle scenes then Shattered world will be right up your street.
Here, there is practically zero padding or characters(a happy Rommell gets mentioned twice and thats it) It is all action as you go from one event or battle to the next.
While some readers might not like it, it does allow the author to get on with telling his (pretty good) alternative history story.
I liked it, it was exciting & intresting.
I do however dock 1 star for the sections in brackets where the author tells you what he was thinking. For me this was just poor and lazy. These sections could have easily been integrated into the story to get across the same point. (this was much improved in later books)
PS .....
after buying the 1st 3 books, i then discovered that there was a compilation of all 6. I bought that to read book 4, 5 & 6.
Do yourself a favour, if you are tempted to buy this book, try the (large) sample of the compilation first. If you do like it, then trust me, you'll end up buying all six in the end, so you may as well save yourself money and get the compilation which is half the price of the individuals together.
